‘Clear The Smoke’ entry

When i listen to the radio, i generally stick to Kerrang Radio. Recently they announced the competition called “Clear The Smoke”.

Smokefree West Midlands has teamed up with Kerrang! radio to invite 17 – 24 year olds to enter in the ‘Clear The Smoke’ design project, entries can be made by individuals into either category or indeed into both, a winner will be chosen from each category and prizes awarded as below.

My inspiration was from my own personal childhood (both my parents and siblings smoked). I not only had lacking health (not solely down to them smoking but it was a contributing factor) but I got bullied a lot due to the way I smelt at school (note to parents… stale cigarette smoke is not something that smells nice!) can social media have a dark side?

Facebook, twitter, myspace… these are now household names. Just last night at dinner, my fiancée’s family and I were discussing Facebook status updates (from my fiancée’s mum through to her 14 year old cousin). It is a wonderful tool enabling us keep in contact with friends, colleagues and family (both near and far) and to share our opinion with the world (even if it doesn’t want to hear it) but, it also has its bad side.

The news has been full of stories where university students have faced consequences for what has been posted on Facebook, and people posting slander about their bosses and colleagues… Read the rest of this entry »

wedding website / ruubikCMS

So me and Beth have decided to have a website to help up with our wedding…  http://wedding.vivilanco.com/

I know a few people are “what’s the point of that?”…

Well… a wedding website enables us to capture RSVP emails, also make announcements about the wedding to friends and relatives (and is also a great source of advertising for me as well as a potential route to market later)…

It’s a great way to let those nearby or abroad know about your wedding date and details, who will be in the wedding, and what to expect. We can post our piccys on there from events and, stag / hen parties as well as the big day. It’s just a great tool within the arsenal of our planning… Read the rest of this entry »

Useful and Productive wordpress plugins…

Useful and Productive wordpress plugins

After almost a year with wordpress and its platform, I have found the plugins that are right for me. This isn’t going to be one of those “10 must have wordpress plugins….” bla bla bla, it’s just some friendly advice / wording on what I have found useful (both currently and in the past), so here goes.

Websites that I couldn’t do without

When I first came to the internet I was a late bloomer. All my friends had been on it for years and it took me to move out from my parents’ house to get it.
I soon became fascinated with two things… online Gaming (FPS gaming, not poker…) and Design. As it became apparent that I wasn’t very good at online gaming, I stuck with the design and made the websites for whatever team I was with that season. This escalated when I went to university when I ended up quitting gaming all together and focusing on my degree (Animation).
From here I started freelancing for web-design parallel to my degree, but I couldn’t have got to where I am today without the aid of some of these websites.

Now I feel I should pass my “design bible” on to the masses…
